The Upcycle Fashion 5th Day class recently embarked on an exciting field trip to Found by the Pound, a unique thrift store located near the airport, to gather materials for their creative projects. This hands-on experience allowed students to explore the world of upcycling and learn about the impact of sustainable fashion.
Upon arrival at Found by the Pound, students were greeted by a treasure trove of clothing and accessories waiting to be transformed. With the store’s eclectic assortment, students were able to sift through piles of garments, searching for hidden gems that would serve as the foundation for their upcycled creations. The thrill of the hunt added an element of fun and excitement to the day as students discovered unique pieces they could creatively alter.
While exploring, students learned about the fast fashion industry’s environmental impact and the importance of recycling and repurposing clothing. The visit reinforced the core principles of their class: understanding sustainability, being resourceful, and embracing creativity.
Found by the Pound’s model of selling items by weight made the experience even more intriguing, as students calculated the cost of their finds and considered how they could transform each item into something new and stylish.
