Girls’ Soccer
District Champs!
The Girls’ Soccer team had an outstanding season. The team finished second in the SCAA, but worked their way toward a District Championship and a Quarterfinal State appearance. This was a deep and well-balanced team that should be very strong next season.
The seniors had good careers, led by Blaire Williams. Williams was outstanding transitioning the ball forward and was named 1st Team All-Conference, as well as All-District and All-Region. Faith Webster did good job as a contributor up front. Emily Hirshman had a solid season and career. Elena Truman was a great teammate and was a joy to have on the squad. Malasia Taylor used her speed to provide offensive upside.
The junior class was the motor that helped make this team roll. Catherine Birch had another outstanding season playing in the midfield and had 37 points. Catherine was named 1st Team All-Conference, All-District, and All-Region. Meg Corbett was the rock in the middle of the defense. Meg was also named 1st Team All-Conference, All-District, and All-Region. Madison Fuller was another strong defensive player for the team. Maddy was named 2nd Team All-Conference. Ashlyn Wiley was another key cog to the defense, and was named All-District.
The sophomores also had a good showing this season. Goalie Kate O’Sullivan had a breakthrough season. Kate was named 2nd Team All-Conference as well as All-District. Jaz Humphries did fantastic work as she was named 2nd Team All-Conference. Goalies Amma Bromley-Perry and Maya Ledbetter both worked hard in a backup role. Other sophomores that were strong members of the team include Niejah Crump, Claire Guest, Meg Pruitt, Caroline Buchholz, Zoe Zigler, Minori Kishi, Ellie Hughes, Madeline Young, and Grace Crow.
The freshmen also showed great promise this season. Lauren Moore and Julia Wolff spent quality minutes on the field. Makyla Spann showed great promise as an offensive threat. VJ Shaw did a good job developing this season. Mia Martinez showed that she has the skill set to be an impact player.
Track and Field
McKinlee Morris
The Track team had an excellent season! Not a large team in number, but all eight members put up up strong and improving numbers throughout the season.
We had two seniors participate on the team, and both were pillars of the group. Brian Kishi ran only his senior year. He was strong in the 100 meter dash and was a member of the 4×400 relay team, advancing to the Sectional meet in both. He also signed to run track at Knox College. Adam Raney was a four-year runner. Specializing in distance, Adam was part of our 4×400 relay team that advanced to Sectionals.
Junior Russell Bigham had a good season running distance and was a part of the 4×400 Sectional relay team. McKinlee Morris had another stellar season. She repeated as State Champion in the shot put, and also advanced to the State Meet in discus. She is a highly sought after college prospect!
Sophomore Courtnee Martin was our other athlete that advanced to the State Meet. Courtnee advanced in the discus and finished 5th in the State.
The freshmen were also pivotal. Adonia Mitchum did an outstanding job competing at this level for the first time. Sam Bigham did a good job running distance, participating on the 4×400 relay team. Kendall Gunn was excellent as a thrower, advancing to Sectionals in both shot and discus.
Baseball
Gianni Panzeri
The progress of this year’s Varsity Baseball team was not realized in terms of wins and losses. The spurts of promise were intermittent and were difficult to sustain. However, we believe that this group has a great deal of potential. There were no seniors on the roster and the young players have an excellent work ethic that will translate to team success.
The juniors that played this season had both hot and cold runs. Jordan Caradine and Mac Beatrice were regulars in the outfield. Daniel Baumstark spent time on the mound and at 1st base. Gianni Panzeri was the regular 2nd baseman and did a good job on the mound as well. Nick Babusis was a reserve infielder and did well when called upon.
The sophomores played some key roles. Kyle Tomasula spent time at shortstop, 3rd base, and on the mound. Mac Neal played fairly regularly in the outfield and pitched as well. Harbor Wolff had an excellent year hitting the ball, primarily at the designated hitter spot and catching some innings. Addison Steinbach hit the ball well while spending time at shortstop and the outfield, while also pitching a bit.
This group of freshmen holds the key to the future along with the sophomores. Jacob Mishkin should be a difference maker going forward. He shows great promise on the mound, 1st base, and in the outfield. Elek Borrelli should be an excellent utility player, as he spent time at 2nd base, 3rd base, outfield, catcher, and pitcher. Thomas Drake has a big upside as a big bat at either corner infield spot. Tiger Hutton improved a great deal from middle school. David Crow worked hard in the outfield. David Truman did an excellent job developing at 3rd base. William Isaac had the best season of the freshmen. He was our everyday catcher and pitched once per week. He led the team in hitting and was named 2nd Team All-Conference.
