From Crisis to Community: Finishing Strong at Crossroads

June 10, 2025

In the aftermath of the May 17 tornado, Crossroads adapted quickly to ensure student and community safety. Damage to nearby power lines and concerns over the school’s roof and HVAC systems delayed our return to campus. Classes were canceled the Monday following the storm, and students engaged in asynchronous virtual learning on Tuesday. Despite the disruption, our community’s resilience and togetherness never wavered.

Families stepped up. Alumni and students pitched in to help neighbors. Our campus became a true place of refuge—hosting an American Red Cross shelter in our gym for families affected by the storm. Community members showed up for an adult volunteer cleanup day, and donations began pouring into our Crossroads Storm Relief Fund, directly supporting impacted families and recovery efforts.

We’re thrilled to share that we were able to safely reopen our building for the final week of school. And what a week it was: our Middle Schoolers enjoyed a much-anticipated overnight camping trip, Crossroads alum and Broadway star Nick Drake returned to share their journey to stardom with students, and the year closed with a joyful all-school field day and an unforgettable lip sync battle.

As we reflect on these past weeks, we are deeply grateful for every student, staff member, and supporter who showed what it means to be a Crossroadian. From sheltering during a storm to dancing under the summer sun, this community continues to prove: we show up for each other. Always.
