
The start of the school year brings an exciting opportunity for our students to explore their passions and interests through our innovative 5th Day program. This quarter, students have been engaging in a diverse range of classes designed to ignite creativity, foster collaboration, and cultivate critical thinking skills.
A Snapshot of This Quarter’s Offerings:
- STL Architecture: Led by Bryan, students embark on an exploration of the architectural landscape of St. Louis. Through hands-on projects and a bus tour with the Missouri History Museum, students learn to appreciate the city’s rich architectural history while developing their own design concepts.
- Video Production and Animation: Under the guidance of Jasmin, students dive into the world of digital storytelling. They learn the fundamentals of video production, graphic editing, and animation, allowing them to create captivating visual narratives.
- Outdoor Education: Howard leads students on a journey of discovery in nature. This course focuses on survival skills, environmental awareness, and appreciation of local ecosystems, providing students with valuable experiences outside the classroom.
- The Food of STL Neighborhoods: Karsen takes students on a culinary adventure, exploring the diverse cultural heritage of St. Louis through its neighborhoods and their unique cuisines. This class combines food exploration with local history, offering a delicious way to learn.
- Car Maintenance: Taught by Cliff, this hands-on course empowers students with essential automotive skills. From basic maintenance to understanding the mechanics of vehicles, students gain confidence in their ability to tackle car-related challenges.
- Theatre Tech Design Immersion: Lizi guides students through the intricate process of theatrical design for our upcoming fall musical, Ride the Cyclone. With a focus on lighting, sound, and set design, students are honing their skills with the help of guest artists from the industry.
- Civitas: With Arthur as the adjunct teacher, this class encourages students to engage with current social issues, promoting awareness and activism within the community.
- Upcycle Fashion: Christa leads this course where students explore the impact of fast fashion and learn to create new clothing items from recycled materials. This class emphasizes sustainability and creativity.
- Rock Climbing: Ethan takes students on an exhilarating journey of personal growth and teamwork at local climbing gyms, where they learn climbing techniques and safety measures.
- Drone Crew: Under Tom’s direction, students utilize cutting-edge technology to produce videos for local nonprofits. They learn about video production and the ethical use of technology in storytelling.
