Excellence in Mathematics
On Saturday, November 7, thirty-five math maniacs from Crossroads, and 600 other high school students from the area, descended upon the Forest Park Campus of St. Louis Community College to participate in the annual St. Louis Excellence in Mathematics Contest. For the third year in a row the Crossroads students performed well. Our Freshmen team earned fifth place in Division 1 (small schools), Juniors earned 2nd place for the third year in a row, and the Seniors came in 4th place. Individual medalists were senior Andy Zhang (7th place overall), and juniors David Dong (7th place), Evan Chen (9th place), and Faith Blank (10th place).
Thanks to all who participated and we look forward to continued math success!
WorldQuest Competition
Seniors Tova Cohen, Francesca Raucci, Kayla Sullivan, and Andy Zhang competed in the WorldQuest competition (sponsored by the World Affairs Council) last week at Webster University. They’ve been studying topics ranging from refugees to the Arctic for the past few weeks, and their hard work paid off. It was Crossroads’ first year competing, and the team won the best “Rookie Team” award, which they were very excited about. Of the five teams that won various prizes, including the first place trip to DC, our kids cheered the loudest when their team was announced as a winner. They had a lot of fun and did a great job representing Crossroads. They also received some awesome trophies–which we will be getting later once their names are put on them–and $250!
