First Saturday Chess Tournament: Saturday, November 12th
Meet at Maplewood-Richmond Heights HS, 8 am
The Gateway Fall Open will be held on November 12th at Maplewood-Richmond Heights High School, 7539 Manchester Rd, Maplewood, MO 63143.
Students who are interested should sign up on the list outside Howard’s room by Friday, November 11th.
We will meet at Maplewood at 8 am on Saturday. Parking is available off Lohmeyer, just north of the school. Take Manchester, turn north on Bedell (near aquatic center), and then turn east onto Lohmeyer.
Students should be picked up at Maplewood around 5:30pm.
This is a USCF rated tournament. Students must be current USCF members to play. Membership may be renewed online at uschess.org or may be purchased at the tournament at a discounted rate of $9. Please make checks payable to “Gateway Chess.”
Middle School chess begins Tuesday, November 15th
Red Rook will be held for five Tuesdays, beginning November 15th. Students in 7th and 8th grade may play. Students who are interested should sign up on the Red Rook list outside Howard’s room by Friday, November 11th.We will depart immediately after school on the 15th for McKinley Classical Junior Academy, 2156 Russell Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63104.
I am requesting 3 drivers to bring students to the tournament. We will depart at 3:15 and should return to Crossroads by 6:30 pm. Students may get picked up at McKinley before 6 pm if this is more convenient.
High School students needed to referee for Red Rook.
I would like two or three high school students to help referee and operate the computer each week of Red Rook. We would leave at 3:15 each Tuesday. Each session will count as 1/3 of a tournament for qualifying for Nationals next spring.
Upcoming Saturday Tournaments and Events
Attendance at State, plus three additional tournaments (or their equivalent in weekday matches), is required to attend Nationals in Nashville, TN next spring.
