A Tiny House for Sharon and Sal

adminUncategorized

PastedGraphic-1We are building a Tiny House for our librarian Sharon and her husband Sal.  Sal has always dreamed of building a house and of the economic independence that comes with building and owning a house outright.  Sal has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has already lived past the time that doctors predicted when he was first diagnosed.  Sal wants to realize this dream before he grows more ill and is unable to help.  Sal knows how to get things done and having recently finished his book and completed an album, he turned his full attention to realizing his plan to build a Tiny House to live in.  Both Sharon and Sal are highly motivated to live lives in harmony with nature and to lead lives that leave as small a footprint on the earth as possible; a Tiny House is one way to remain true to their ideals.

Our Good Work “trip” this summer will see students working to build this Tiny House.  Joining Sal and Sharon, student volunteers will work the week of June 8 to June 12 to frame and roof as much of the structure as time allows.  We are also organizing a second week of work for any adults in our community with the time and energy to help complete the task.  Construction will continue on the Tiny House the weekend of June 13 and 14 and on evenings during the week of June 15 to June 19.  For these times, we are looking for skilled volunteers able to help with electricity, plumbing, and finish carpentry.  If you can help any of those times, please email Mark.

Our Good Work trip this summer is in the spirit of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  We hope to make Sal’s wish a reality!
