February 3, 2015

NAME: Ivan Boyers
YEAR: Junior (11th)
TEAM(S) PARTICIPATED ON AT CROSSROADS: Soccer

1) What is your favorite aspect of the Athletic Program at Crossroads?

The athletic program at Crossroads is clearly like nowhere else. Not only can it cultivate new athletes, but it allows any student that’s interested to join. It also allows experienced athletes to take a strong leadership role in guiding the team. I’m not incredibly confident as an athlete, but the kids around me and the inclusive aspect of the programs have allowed me to thrive.

2) What is your fondest moment from your athletic experience at Crossroads?

This is a hard decision. Winning the soccer senior night against Bayless during my sophomore year for the SCAA championship was incredible simply because it had never happened before. My favorite had to be this year, though. The district final game against Principia. A seemingly impossible feat felt somewhat conceivable after our season. Then, at their house, we just came out fired up, and our team’s intensity and physicality seemed to scare the overconfident boys.

3) Which opposing school do you enjoy playing against the most and why?

My favorite school to play against is probably Brentwood. A plus side to playing them is that we always manage to win. At times, it feels like we dominate the whole game, but we almost never manage to beat them by more than two or three, so the games keep some intensity as well.

4) What is your favorite song, book or movie?

Interstellar.

5) What is your favorite game day lunch?

Chipotle Chicken Bowl: Brown Rice, Black Beans, Chicken, Pico de Gallo, Hot Salsa, Corn Salsa, Cheese, Guacamole, Lettuce.

6) Do you have any superstitions or good luck trinkets that affect you on

Nope. I don’t need good luck.

7) Where have you traveled that has impacted you the most?

When I traveled to Myanmar during the summer of 2014, I honestly was able to view my life in a whole new light. The people there were so welcoming and genuinely interested in getting to know me. They were grateful for the work my group accomplished there, and demonstrated true kindness and happiness in an otherwise poverty-ridden life.

8) What is the one word you can use to sum up your experience in Crossroads Athletics?

Fun, and this sounds incredibly cliché, but I’ve been able to push myself and succeed while also having fun with a team full of my friends.
