Crossroads Athletics Director Bob Beatrice shares a wrap-up of the basketball season for the Current
Girls’ Basketball
The Girls’ Basketball team had a very successful winter. The team finished second in the SCAA and advanced to the District semifinal at the end of the season. Coach Mike Pomatto continues to build continuity and family environment in the program and will continue to see improvement in the coming years.
Seniors Blaire Williams, Faith Webster, and Faith Gilmore led the way for the squad. Webster was one of the scoring and rebounding leaders and subsequently was named 1st Team All-Conference. Williams helped handle the ball and contributed strong offense and defense. She was named 2nd Team All-Conference. Gilmore was a solid contributor to the team. She helped defend on the post and did a good job rebounding.
Junior Catherine Birch had an outstanding season. Birch was a key defender for the Current and chipped in points when the opportunities were there. Sophie Cohen played an important role with the team, offering both backcourt and front court help. Olivia Smith had a streaky season. There were times when she was able to take over offensively to help relieve the pressure. Rita Dong did a nice job, playing primarily JV.
Sophomore Courtnee Martin gained a lot of experience on the JV team and got some playing time with the Varsity as well. Freshman Makyla Spann had a breakout season. She was one of the leading scorers and will be a force in the SCAA for the next three years. Freshmen Julia Wolff, Lauren Moore, and VJ Shaw played valuable minutes for the Current and will be big contributors in the future.
Another solid season for the ladies and we are looking forward to next season.
Boys’ Basketball
The basketball team had a very challenging season. Challenged by small numbers and injuries, first year head coach Jerome Douglas had his work cut out for him. He did an excellent job of keeping the boys working together and continuing to improve on a daily basis.
Seniors Andrew Guest and Jude Huck-Reymond did a superb job of working hard all season and setting a good example for the younger players. Guest missed most of the season, but was ever-present throughout. Huck-Reymond had by far his best season. He filled an important role on the court beautifully.
Junior Jordan Caradine missed some time with injury this season, but was very productive when he was healthy. He led the team in scoring and was one of the leaders in rebounding. He was also named 2nd Team All-Conference for his performance. Juniors Miles Thomas and Kevin Chester did most of the ball handling and did an excellent job chipping in points in spurts.
Sophomore Jordan Bogan-Garrett had an outstanding rebounding season. He continues to develop his offensive game and should be a huge building block for the next two seasons. Sophomore Jackson Dobslaw was one of the most improved players on the team. A tireless worker, Dobslaw is an unselfish contributor on both ends of the court. Freshmen Tyler Turner and Kendall Gunn gained invaluable experience to provide more assistance in the coming years.
