Day of Silence at Crossroads

April 20, 2016

A big thank you to all who participated in the Day of Silence!  Special thanks to our Gender Spectrum Alliance (GSA) and GSA leaders, Leilani and Zoey . They worked hard to make the whole week special, and in what has become a Day of Silence tradition, David Jay returned as our guest speaker. David speaks with clarity and kindness and is a powerful model of Crossroadians doing good out in the world!
In the images below, you can see David meeting with a group at lunch, leading them in a design thinking process to generate design elements for a soon-to-be, online safe space for LGBTQA
youth. There is an image with GSA leaders and David beneath the big Day of Silence banner in FullSizeRender the main lobby, and one image as Day of Silence pIMG_7406articipants gather at the end of the day to break the silence in the main lobby.
For more information about the Day of Silence, consider the text from this poster:
Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence (DOS), a national youth movement bringing attention to the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies.IMG_7410

My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by anti-LGBT bullying, name-calling and harassment.

I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward building awareness and making a commitment to address these injustices.
Think about the voices you ARE NOT hearing today.
