Chess Team Wins Tournament

Pattonville Chess Awards 2015

The high school A team won the Gateway Team Tournament held last Saturday at Pattonville High School. Crossroads finished with a perfect 4-0 record ahead of rivals Metro and Vianney. Matt Larson led the team on board 1 with 4 wins, and Rock Jia placed second on board 2 with 3 wins and a draw in his USCF debut tournament. The A team also included Andrew Kowalkowski, Katie Stujenske, and Homer Dula. David Dong went undefeated on board 5 for the B team, finishing in third place on board 5. He was joined by Jonathan Lake, Solomon Cooper, LaVaughn Caradine, and Blake Fondren. Joey Blank earned three wins and a draw to finish in first place on board 4 for the 9th grade and under team. Russell Bigham also turned in a strong performance, winning three games and finishing in 2nd place on board 3. Emanuel Gerbi, Doug Koller, and Parker Lake rounded out the team.
