Day of Silence 2015

A big thank you to all who participated in the Day of Silence. Special thanks to our Social Justice group and Gender Spectrum Alliance (GSA). They worked hard to make the whole week special. David Jay was our guest speaker and spoke with the groups at lunch and then again to anyone from the Metro area who wanted to come to the 5pm talk. David was absolutely wonderful!  In the image, you can see Social Justice and GSA leaders preparing to speak to people assembled at the end of the Day of Silence. After a few words, they counted down and all who had stayed silent let out a yell to mark the end of their pledge of silence. This day was a great success!

Below is text from one of the signs our Social Justice group posted around Crossroads:

Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence (DOS), a national youth movement bringing attention to the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies.

My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by anti-LGBT bullying, name-calling and harassment.

I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward building awareness and making a commitment to address these injustices.

Think about the voices you ARE NOT hearing today.
